What Is A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

One of the most well liked and adored toy breeds of dogs, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an energetic, sporting little dog with the confidence and personality of a dog many times his size. A refined pure-bred, the Cavalier has a long, silky coat in 4 traditional color markings and a nice personality that makes him excellent for pretty much every owner.

Although descended from hunting spaniels, this small dog is a perfect house pet—playful, small, fun-loving, straightforward to train, and terribly patient of of kids . It is recomended that children be old enough to know how to be gentle to prevent injury to this tolerant and trusting breed. Whether you live on a farm or on the 40th floor in a high rise, the Cavalier makes a superb choice for a companion dog. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has easily acclimatized to household living and makes a superb pet. They seek to please their owner which makes them easy to train. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are quite happy at home in a castle or a condo, the city or the country.

Traditionally, during Tudor times in England, Toy Spaniels were common as ladies ' pets, but it was under the Stuarts that they were given the royal title of King Charles Spaniels. King Charles II was seldom seen without two or three of these spaniels at his heels. The red and white strain of Toy Spaniels was bred at Blenheim Palace by the Dukes of Marlborough. The breed died out due to the acceptance and popularity of flat faced dogs like Pugs and King Charles Spaniel (also called "Charlies" and known in the US as the English Toy Spaniel). The breed was reintroduced in the 1920 and in 1945 the Kennel Club granted separate registration for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Animated, yet loving, a Cavalier will like keeping you company, whether that entails being beside you on a walk or snuggling cozily on your lap! Elegant in appearance but energetic and loving in nature, they are the perfect companions for families with youngsters, empty nesters, or retirees.

To find out more about these little guys I would like to recommend hunting for a local breed club to contact local Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeders. A local club will let you engage with people which have been with the breed for a number of years. More information can be gained from the national clubs websites.
