Dog’s, in most cases are guard dog’s in the sense that they bark, which alerts you to someone being on your property. If you want them to attack, thats a whole other topic. Generally, dog’s trained to attack do not make good family pets, and could even land you in court. Even if the dog attacks an intruder. And yeah, like Linc said….if it’s that bad MOVE!

A true gaurd dog is simpley one that deters people from entering a residence. Typically this is done by simpley just putting up a fuss of barking when someone is at the door. Evena Chuhuahua can do that.

Someone breaking into the house hears, or even sees dogs, will move on to the next house.

You don’t need an Attack dog…. but if you do…. MOVE!

Extensive obedience training can get your dogs to do just about anything. Do you know how they react when you’re not there? Dogs are usually protective of their territories and just having a dog in the house is a deterent. But, if you are at home (with the obedience training) there are verbal commands that work like "speak" just to let whoever know there’s a dog in the house.

What we do with our little toy poodle is when we hear a knock, we freak out and say to him, whose there. We trained him to freak out when someone is outside or comes here.I am alone alot, and he alerts me if someone is outside.I too live in an area where its quite bad.Just get him going when someone knocks, and when he barks, give him a treat and praise him.
